as like a casual somewhat part-time fan of magical girl/mahou shoujo media who didn’t exactly grow up with it and thus developed an interest in it only pretty recently ago, i feel like when it comes to lighthearted, non-grimdark magical series i like japanese-made ones best meanwhile for dark ones i like western-made ones better. i feel like most japanese dark MG series focus too much on the pain and suffering meanwhile from what ive seen most western series focus more on what it means to pledge yourself to defeating evil and/or the concept of an “evil-defeating force” as a force of nature which is such an inch resting concept to me...
#i understand that they're kind of mutually exclusive due to japanese media focusing more on interpersonal relations while western ones#focus more on the definition and roles of a magical girl/boy/child/whatever. the reason i like jpn non-grimdark MG stuff more is b/c they#usually also take into consideration stuff like coming of age and what it means to become an adult which i feel is one of the pillars#of MG media. most western works i see usually just tackle only the power of friendship and call it a day#anyway that's enough rambling. don't take my words too seriously btw these are just observations#val talks
